Caribbean's surf secret

Caribbean's surf secret

Season: November to april
Level: Intermediate to advanced reef break
Board rental: $ 50.000 Pesos
Lessons: ask for prices

Isla Fuerte until recently has been one of Colombias best kept surfing secrets, but thanks to us and some keen Colombian die hards the wave is becoming increasingly more popular, so we have to be mindful of our impacts on the environment whilst maintaining a safe and fun surf culture. Punta ingles on the island north is home to one of Colombia’s only real barreling point breaks hence the name “Colpipe” Colombian pipeline. You don’t have to be Kelly slater or even a semi pro surfer but colopipe is a shallow reef break and depending on the day can be critical for beginners. If you are unsure in your ability to surf safely please ask about our 1on1 surf courses (subject to conditions and availability).

Because of the location and the dangers involved not only for us surfers but the super delicate reef itself there are a few things to consider.

Please check your sunscreen for harsh reef damaging chemicals such as oxybenzone and octinoxate they are toxic and do not belong in the water. We sell Head Hunter sunscreen and zink at the hostel that is strong and safe to use.

It is not necessary to wear reef booties so plz do not as it just encourages you to put your feet down and stomp over live corals that take years to grow back.

We have very little medical facilities on the island, for that reason we cannot rent boards or equipment unless u are accompanied by a boat and captian recommended by us the whole time your in the water with our gear.

It is prohibited to touch, take or kill corals, undersized fish or conch shells of any kind if you see someone doing so please kindly return the creatures to the ocean and remind the person we are simply visitors

The waves are a gift from the ocean to us, everyone deserves a fair go and it is more fun and
rewarding to share these experiences so please apart of the normal surf rules try to keep a friendly
good vibe in the water so everyone gets a chance to stoke out at Isla Fuerte and share epic waves
they probably didn’t know existed in Colombia!

Semana Santa

Easter week

‘Semana Santa’ is one of the busiest weeks of the year with literally hundreds of Colombians heading to the small island, with that in mind if its peace and quiet you’re looking for maybe its not the right time to visit 😉 the island transforms from a quite of the track relaxed vibe into a party person’s dream!

Isla Fuerte

Found in 1700

Isla Fuerte

a small coral island

..in the Caribbean Sea of the northern coast.  It is part of the chain of Islands formed by the Rosario Islands, the Archipelago of San Bernardo and Tortuguilla. The Island has an area of 3.25 km2 and elevation of 12 meter.

The island has a population of around 2000, mostly of African descent. The island is encircled by coral reefs and scattered rocks where fish and other ocean creatures gather. Isla Fuerte has trees spread throughout with royal palms, mangos, and a giant ancient Walking Tree. The island has over 80 species of birds, which can be found in and around the mangroves.

Repellent

Sometimes we even have mosquitos in paradise, so be prepared for these annoying biting creatures and bring some repellent.

NATURAL PARK

…smack bang in the middle of glorious mother nature. We ask that you, as our guest, help us maintain our little slice of paradise with recycling, saving water etc.
